Doris Madeline McGrew Obituary

Doris Madeline Gray McGrew was born on January 19, 1920, near Nocona, TX. She passed away peacefully from this life on Monday, April 27, 2020 at her home in Arlington, TX. A private visitation and private funeral service, made necessary due to restrictions brought about by the COVID-19 Pandemic, will be held at Wade Family Funeral Home, Arlington. A private burial will be at Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington. Doris Gray McGrew was born to John Edward and Flora Viola (Horne) Gray. She worked at the post office in Oakland, CA, during WWII before moving to Arlington where she later retired as a secretary to a group of engineers at LTV in Grand Prairie, TX. She loved people, her family and traveling to visit family in Ireland, England and New Zealand, who also became frequent visitors to their home in the USA. She spent many years working on family history and compiling volumes of information on family lines on both sides of the family, publishing and sharing with many around the world. For a number of years, she and her family spent almost every weekend at a family cabin on Lake Grapevine. She loved spending time at her son, John’s, ranch outside Mexia, and she was proud to help her son, Tom, in any way she could to renovate a building he and his wife bought in Old Downtown Arlington. She had so many friends who became like family and were included in annual family events to the point that it was hard to distinguish them from “real” family. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Arlington and a Ladies Sunday School Class there for many, many years. She is survived by her 2 sons, Thomas McGrew and his wife, Sandra and John McGrew, both of Arlington, TX; her 4 grandchildren, Brian McGrew and his wife, Becky of Parker, CO, Alan McGrew and his wife, Jill of Corinth, TX, Grady McGrew of Arlington, TX and Amber McGrew of Mexia, TX; 3 great-granddaughters, Taylor McGrew of Parker, CO and Lauren and Ashley McGrew, both of Corinth, TX; and brother, Jerry Gray and his wife, Sue of Arlington, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nuell Clarence McGrew, sisters, Ruby Peters and Joyce Lee, and brother, Jack Gray. Wade Family Funeral Home 817-274-9233
