Zera Joan McFadden

Zera Joan McFadden, longtime resident of McCrory, Arkansas departed this life peacefully from her home on Thursday, October 10, 2019 at the age of 81 with her family by her side. She was born on March 8, 1938 in Marietta, Mississippi, the daughter of Guy and Mildred Patton Nichols. Mrs. McFadden attended Bay High School and was recognized as a high scorer in basketball. She married Mr. Homer McFadden Jr. who preceded her in death on January 18, 2014. She was employed through Wal Mart for over fifteen years and was a homemaker. Mrs. McFadden enjoyed working her flower garden and vegetable garden. Being in the kitchen, homemade biscuits were her family’s favorite and you would find her canning, homemade Pear Preserves and Muscadine Jelly was her specialty making sure that her family would have a jar to take home with them. She loved playing Rook, searching for yard sales or hunting for deer. But her passion was fishing and you would always see her fishing pole close by. Mrs. McFadden is preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Mildred Nichols, two sons, Homer William McFadden III, Micheal Joe McFadden, two brothers, Ebon Nichols, Johnny Nichols and one sister, Virginia Vanderhoo. Mrs. McFadden is survived by one son, Mark Lynn McFadden and wife Roxanne of Morrilton, Arkansas, two daughters, Judy Carol Dixon and husband Simple of McCrory, Arkansas, Nina Joan Downing of McCrory, Arkansas, six brothers, Jr Nichols, Mac Nichols, Albert Nichols, Billy Nichols, Mickey Nichols, Rickey Nichols, two sisters, Barbara Sue Hutchens, Joyce Young, ten grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Blake McFadden, Kenny McFadden, Dusten McFadden, Trent McFadden, Sean McFadden, Brad McFadden, Nick Neal, Jody Neal and John Paul Thielemier. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 14th at the Thompson-Wilson McCrory Funeral Home Chapel with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. Interment will be in Woodman Cemetery.
