Charles Fields

Charles W. Fields, 89, passed away on April 25, 2016, at his residence. He attended Chattanooga Public Schools before attending Tennessee State University, receiving a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration.  He was drafted into the Army before finishing high school and went on to serve as a Military Police and Sargent in the service with an honorable discharge.   Charles worked in the public school system and furthered his career in Human Resources with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA).  He retired from TVA in 1980. Throughout his career Charles was active in the community and was a participant with the NAACP.  Charles received his 50 years of service pin from Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and several community service awards. He was a faithful member of the Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as President of the Brotherhood Ministry, member of the male choir, and member of the corporate board.  Charles was Chairman of the Personnel Committee and a member of the Sunday School Teachers Ministry. He was preceded in death by his wife Vilma Scruggs Fields; parents, Charles W. Sr.  and Mami Kyle; sister Christine Fields Carvin; two sons Anthony and Vincent Fields; and grandson Kelvin Fields.   He is survived by his children Albert Fields and DeNeese Howse; grandchildren, Regina Hambrick, Carey Fields, Carlos Fields, Martobia Wood, Kelly Fields, Anthony Fields, Vanita Fields Appleberry, Donitta Fields; devoted friend and brother-in-law James E. Jones, long time devoted friend, John P. Franklin,Sr., and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 pm Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church.  Interment: Hamilton Memorial Gardens.  The body will lie in state after noon Friday.  The Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity service will begin at 5:30 pm Friday evening and he family will receive friends from 6-7 pm immediately following the Kappa service at the funeral home.
