Linda Wood, born in Kansas City June 4, 1941, passed peacefully on Sunday, November 17, 2019, with immediate family at her bedside. Her demise resulted from advanced Alzheimer's disease, breast cancer and a hip fracture. She received comfort care at the Eckstein Center, a top inpatient care home of Hospice of the Valley in Scottsdale, Arizona. A Celebration of Life is scheduled at 10:30 AM on Saturday, January 11, 2020, at the Desert Mission United Methodist Church at 7373 E Dixileta Drive, Scottsdale, AZ 85266, Telephone: (480) 595-1814. This memorial was deferred as her brain and body will be used to seek an Alzheimer's cure by Banner Sun Health Research Institute. Linda was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2010 and subsequently volunteered for four clinical trials at Banner Alzheimer's Institute in Phoenix. Early in her ten-year journey, she served a two-year term on the Regional Leadership Council of the National Alzheimer's Association through its Desert Southwest Chapter serving Arizona and Nevada. She also inspired the founding of Alzheimer's Art, Art from the Heart, a non-profit consortium of artists who donated fine art for sale and auction to benefit Alzheimer's disease research, support, advocacy and education. Originally from Columbia, MO, Linda received her diploma from Gamaliel Bradford Senior High School in Wellesley, Massachusetts and graduated from Stephens College in Columbia with an Associate's Degree. She was a trained Travel Agent and earned licenses as a Realtor in both Kansas and Arizona. Other career positions included Product Planner of Hallmark Cards, Inc. in Kansas City, MO, Vice-President and Secretary of GLW, Inc, Management Consultant to Evenson's Retail Division of Hallmark Cards, Assistant Store Manager of Broadway Southwest Department Stores, and Reservations Specialist for American Airlines, all in Tucson AZ. In semi-retirement, she managed multiple departments for Walmart Stores, Inc. in Mena, AR. Linda is survived by her husband of fifty-five years, Gerald Lloyd Wood, sons: David Wood and wife Karen of Scottsdale, Brian Bennett Wood and wife Tina of Portland, OR, and Jonathan Britton Wood and wife Sarah of Puyallup, WA. Grandchildren are Taylor, Emily, Miles, Elinor, Bre, Jay, and Bryton Wood. In St. George, UT, are Granddaughters Bailey and Brooke Mizukawa.
