Faye Brown Obituary

Faye Daphne Converse Brown, 86, of Tucson, AZ., passed away unexpectedly October 26, 2013. She was born to the late Merle and Nellie Hunt Converse, July 21, 1927, just outside of Eskridge, KS. Faye graduated from Eskridge High School and earned a B.S. in Journalism and Home Economics from Kansas State Agricultural College in 1950. She married the late John L. Brown III on October 10, 1958. They lived in Marysville, KS, for more than 20 years before relocating to Tucson in 1984. Faye was a career writer and author. In Kansas, she wrote for publications such as Household and Capper's Farmer and was a reporter and feature article writer for The Marysville Advocate. She enjoyed interviewing people, perhaps especially for recipe and kitchen-related columns. She also developed a wide variety of recipes and won the desserts division of the Pillsbury Bake-Off. In Tucson, she wrote travel articles for Arizona Sun and contributed on a freelance basis for Arizona Senior World, publishing interviews with many people, including Ray Bradbury, Abigail Van Buren, Will Rogers Jr., Rex Allen Sr., Joe Namath and Betty White. She published a book, Letters Home: The True Story of Lt. Harry Frank Hunt, Veterinary Reserve Corps, AEF, WWI, about an uncle who died in France during WWI. Faye was an active member of The Society of Southwestern Authors, PEO Sisterhood and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed competitive ballroom dancing and was a successful photographer. Faye is survived by two sons, Kevin of Tempe, AZ, and Steven of Lawrence, KS. She is also survived by five brothers and sisters, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many dear friends.
