Marlene Smith

Marlene Smith 12/30/1920 - 4/6/2011 Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Marlene Smith, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2011, at the age of 90. She was born on December 30, 1920 in New Cambria, Kansas to John and Mary Sullivan. She was one of five daughters and the only one to attend high school. After receiving her diploma, she moved to California where she married Harold Hickling and raised three children, Richard Hickling of Tacoma, WA, Pat Storey of Tucson and Beverly Barham of Silverton, OR. Marlene began working for Bank of America in May 1960, and after having a successful career as a Loan Officer, she retired in December 1985 after serving 25 years with them. After being single for many years and enjoying ballroom dancing, Marlene met Raymond Smith at a dance when he swept her off her feet, and they were married in 1978. After 31 years of marriage, Ray passed away in January 2010. They were living in California until they moved to Reno, NV in 1992, and in September 2008, they moved to Tucson to be close to their daughter and son-in-law, Al and Pat Storey. Besides Marlene's three children, she was also loved by five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Our family would like to thank the staff at La Canada Care Center for providing a loving and caring home for our mother during her last year. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 North Northern Avenue with Funeral Services following at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
