After a prolonged illness with Wilson’s Disease, Jacob Paul Napoli, loving son and brother, passed from this earth on Saturday, June 22, 2019, at the age of 19. Jacob was born on August 26, 1999 in Edmond, OK to Paul Napoli of Martinsburg, WV and Bridget Napoli of Enid, OK. The family eventually settled in Shepherdstown, West Virginia where Jacob lived his formative years with his father Paul and his wife, Andrea Sherman-Napoli. He then divided his time between the two states, summering with his Oklahoma family, whom he dearly loved. He had two brothers, J.P. Napoli of Martinsburg, WV and Jordan Thompson of Buffalo, NY. He was the grandson of Franklin (deceased) and Dale Napoli Rice of Manassas, VA; John (deceased) and Lorraine Mercuri Napoli of Cape Coral, FL; Leo (deceased) and Connie Conrady of Enid, OK; and Roger and Charlotte Sherman, of Martinsburg, WV. Jacob graduated cum laude from Jefferson High School in May of 2018 and enrolled in Shepherd University that same year. Jacob attended Covenant Church where he was baptized in 2013 and where he grew in his faith. Jacob loved frisbee golf, Legos, action-figures, bon-fires, Hot Fries, paper-people, Superheroes, and being in the water. Jacob was compassionate, smart, sincere, creative, sweetly incorrigible, respectful, trusting, handsome, and loving! He was an ideal younger brother to J.P. with whom he lived, played, quarreled, admired, and fiercely loved! Jacob’s long-distance relationship with his oldest brother, Jordan, was one of mutual adoration, respect, love, and trust that only brought them closer across the miles. Jacob was Family in every sense of the word. He never met a stranger. He loved, and was loved, by his immediate family, his many aunts, uncles, and cousins (too numerous to name here), his church family, his school family, and his work family at Taco Bell in Martinsburg, WV. Jacob was the rare teenager who looked you in the eye when he spoke, he listened with sincerity, and knew how to show appreciation without words. In November of 2018, after months of medical misdiagnosis (such as mental illness) and testing, Jacob was admitted to the University of Michigan Hospital to the care of Dr. Fred Askari, Director of Wilson’s Disease Research Center of Excellence. Wilson’s Disease is an extremely rare (often mis-diagnosed) genetic disorder in which copper is not expelled from the body and can achieve toxic levels in the liver and brain. In Jacob’s case, the copper accumulated in his brain to a life-threatening level, completely ravaging his body, taking his strength and ultimately his life. Jacob was incredibly brave in his fight against Wilson’s Disease. The family and friends are blessed by the comfort of knowing that his bright spirit now dwells in the house of his Lord and Savior. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Jacob Napoli Medical Benefit Fund at MVB Bank to be used for unpaid medical expenses. Please mail donations to 815 W. The remainder of all funds will be donated to the Wilson’s Disease Association to ease the burden of others with this terrible disease. Visitation will be held at Brown’s Funeral Home, South Berkeley location on Friday, June 28th from 3-5pm and 7-9pm. A memorial service will be held at the same location on Saturday, June 29th at 1pm with burial services to follow at Rosedale Cemetery with Terry Crawford officiating. A covered dish meal will be held after the internment at Arden United Methodist Church. All are welcome to attend. Jacob’s favorite colors were red and black and we encourage everyone to wear these colors in his honor.
