Gerald Bruce Schmitt<br>Lake Como, NJ<br>February 15, 1948-July 21, 2022<br><br>Gerald Bruce Schmitt, born on February 15th, 1948, to Robert and Dorothy Schmitt in Newark, NJ. Gerald was a graduate from Barringer High School in 1965, and then attended Newark College of Engineering. Afterwards, he enlisted in the United States Army in 1966. During this time, he completed basic training at Fort Dix, NJ, then was transferred to Fort Belvoir, VA for Advanced Individual Training (A.I.T.). He completed the coursework for Refrigeration Equipment Repair at the United States Engineer Army School and received a Distinguished Graduate Certificate in 1967. Shortly after, he was deployed for two years serving in the Vietnam War, stationed in Qui Nhon. Upon discharge from the Army, he enrolled in HVAC courses at Lincoln Technical Institute, this set his path for working independently in the Heating and Air Conditioning business for over 50 years. He worked alongside his father Robert Sr. and brother Robert Jr. in their established business. When he would get the chance, he spent time in Atlantic City, NJ. While in Atlantic City, he enjoyed spending his time with all of the so-many people he has met over the years; many becoming lifelong friends. He kept his friends near and close to him. The many stories he told and memories that were made were through the friends he cherished.<br><br> “Forget me not within your heart”<br><br>In 1987, he met Jacalyn (Billington) Schmitt, and they wed in 1988. They spent 19 years together until the unfortunate passing of Jacalyn in 2007. Gerald is predeceased by his parents, Robert Sr. and Dorothy (Wilson) Schmitt; his wife, Jacalyn; and his niece, Suzanne Schmitt. He is survived by his two siblings; his brother, Robert Schmitt Jr. and spouse Janice (Melillo) Schmitt; his sister, Judith (Schmitt) Keegan and spouse William Keegan; his two nieces and nephew, Robert Schmitt III, Maryanne (Schmitt) Hofer, Tammy (Bascharow) McCarthy and spouse Timothy McCarthy; his ten great-nieces and nephews, Christopher and Nicholas Miscia, Jessica, Michael, and Juila Schmitt, Olivia and Hollis Hofer, Isabella and Giana Chiappone, and Reilly Ann McCarthy.<br><br>He was a force to be reckoned with. His heart was made of gold, so strong willed. He possessed a soft quality and a true sensitive sided nature.<br><br>Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at 3 pm on Friday, August 12, 2022, at Ocean County Memorial Park, 1722 Silverton Road, Toms River, NJ 08753. Gerald Bruce Schmitt, born on February 15th, 1948, to Robert and Dorothy Schmitt in Newark, NJ.
