Arnold Schafer Obituary

Arnold Eugene Schafer, 79, died Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Life Quality Home, Colorado Springs. He retired from the Air Force in 1973, taught instrumental music and retired from District 20, volunteered in the instrumental music program in District 11 at Mann Middle School and was principal trombone in the Colorado Springs Symphony for 47 years, retiring around 2000. Mr. Schafer was born August 9, 1933 in Worthington, Minnesota. He was married June 20, 1954 to Eleanor Rae Trowbridge who preceded him in death on May 25, 1999. He is survived by a son, A. Richard; two daughters, Lizabeth Renae Prutting and LeeAnne Wasinger; a brother, Gerald Schafer; two sisters, Lillian Jacobson and Mary Ann Haberman; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 24 at First Lutheran Church, 1515 N. Cascade Ave., A private burial will be at Air Force Academy Cemetery. Evergreen Funeral Home, 1830 E. Fountain Blvd. is handling arrangements and a Visitation will be held there on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 from 5-7 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to First Lutheran Church, 1515 N. Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80907.
