Durwood Lee Counts, age 73, died Monday, May 27, 2019, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke, Virginia. He was born in Neeley Ridge, Virginia to the late Arthur and Violet Rasnick Counts. He graduated from Haysi High School, attended Pikeville College, and graduated from Lincoln Memorial University. He was a State Farm Insurance Agent, a Mason, and was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lorraine Blevins and Charlotte Counts; one brother, H. Lyman Counts. Durwood is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Helen Rasnick Counts; two sisters, Rita Vance and Paula Gregory; one brother, Wayne Counts; and a number of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Friday evening, June 28, 2019 at 6:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Robert McRae officiating. Masonic Rites will be presented by members of the Millboro Masonic Lodge # 28 A.F. & A.M. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until time of service. Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge is handling arrangements.
