Randy Dunagan

Randolph Lee Dunagan Randy passed on to the next world on Wednesday April 11th at Mercy Medical Center at the age of 69. He was born November 2nd, 1948 to Marvin and Joella Dunagan, in Blythe California. Randy was known by family and friends as RD. In his lifetime, he was a Cub Scout, a wrangler, a ski racer, and a mechanic, all before he graduated from Durango High. As an adult, RD served in the Navy from 1968 to 1974. He worked at Purgatory as a Pro-Patrolman during the winter for several decades, he joined the Durango Fire Department in 1976 and, minus an intermission, worked there until 1997 RD owned and operated several businesses in Durango, including the Texaco at 25th Street, and a do it yourself mechanic shop called the Pit Stop, in Bodo Park. RD became an avid motorcyclist, and worked as an ABATE volunteer for many years. He was so passionate about motorcycle safety that he opened a motorcyclist training company in 2012 with his buddy Jim, and operated it until this year. In addition to motorcycling, RD was a pilot, a boater, a great skier, an outdoorsman, and he even knitted and sewed pretty fair. He was also a go to guy for a great number of people and tribes. RD is survived by his mother Joella, his son Colter Dunagan, his significant other for 15 years Deb Kimmel, his brothers Dow Dunagan (Gloria) and Lance Dunagan (Marilyn), nieces Stephanie and Kerri, and nephew Brian. He was preceded in death by his father Marvin. A celebration of life will be held on June 8th from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the V.F.W., 1550 Main St. in Durango. Hawaiian shirts or biker attire will be very welcome. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Ride On My Brother.
