Thomas "Tom" Richard Martin, 53 of Enfield, beloved husband of Nancy (Campbell) Martin passed into his eternal life on Monday November 24, 2008 after a long illness. He was born on January 3, 1955 in Springfield, MA son of the late Walter R. and Julia C. (Hodges) Martin. He had resided in Enfield for the past 10 years and in Springfield, MA before that. Tom served his country honorably with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was employed with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Trial Court Division for the past 14 years, prior to that he drove truck for J. Polep Trucking. Tom was a former member of the Italian-American Club in Springfield and a parishioner of St. Bernard's Church. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed slot car racing, he had a love for cars and in his free time enjoyed puttering in his garage. Besides his wife, Tom is survived by his siblings; Christine Moraczewski and husband, Mitchell, Kathryn Maurer and husband, Klaus all of FL and Mary Newsome and husband, Russell of MA, his beloved nieces and nephews; Benjamin Martin, Michael Moraczewski, Nathaniel and Joseph Maurer, Julia and Christopher Newsome who loved and will miss their "Uncle Buck", his father-in-law and mother-in-law; James and Andrea Campbell, his wife's grandfather, Andrew Stroiney, brother-in-law, Duncan Campbell and companion, Kathy Shanley, sister-in-law, Eileen Campbell and companion, Jim Raymond, and his, Kaitlyn "Little Toots" Campbell. He loved his dogs, Kramer, Jake, Newman and Cosmo (cat) and the many friends of the Crescent Lake Community and his special friends Geno, Sean, Rodney and Jim. Funeral services will be held on Saturday November 29, 2008 with the procession forming at 12:30 p.m. from Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield to St. Bernard's Church 426 Hazard Ave. for a 1:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial followed by military honors. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. His family will receive relatives and friends on Friday Nov. 28 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Enfield Community Ambulance Fund P.O. Box 1249 Enfield, CT 06083-1249 or the Thomas J. O'Connor Animal Shelter 627 Cottage St. Springfield, MA 01104.
