Joan Schempp

Joan Schempp, age 83, passed away on Friday, October 22, 2010 in Monroe, NC. She was born on January 1, 1927 in Bridgeport to the late George and Margaret Larkin Macholowski. A dedicated wife and mother,she was a former employee of the Southern New England Telephone Company. While employed at SNET she became one of the first mobile telephone operators in Connecticut. While raising her sons she was a Cub Scout den mother as well as a volunteer English language instructor. She is survived by her sons William Schempp of Milford, Paul Schempp of Athens, GA, Stephen Schempp of Indian Trail, NC and Kurt Schempp of Highlands Ranch, CO and nine grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her loving husband, George Russell Schempp, and two sisters, Mary Perocco and Edna Chasse. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Peter’s Church, 695 Colorado Ave., Bridgeport, CT at 10am on Saturday, November 6, 2010. Interment will follow in Park Cemetery in Bridgeport. Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 Broad St., Milford is handling the arrangements. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society.
