Lillian Lamberti Obituary

Lillian Lamberti, age 100, of Milford, passed into eternal peace on September 29, 2010, in Milford Hospital after a brief illness. Lillian was born on January 27, 1910 in New York City, first of three daughters born to Anna (Daly) and Robert Holland. She was educated in New York City schools, and graduated from Hunter College with a teaching degree. Lillian was employed for many years by the Guardian Life Insurance Company in Manhattan, before embarking on a career with the New York City Board of Education, until her retirement in 1975. She was a Purchasing Agent for the borough of the Bronx prior to her position as administrative assistant to her career mentor and life-long friend, Theresa Rakow. Prior to these positions, Lillian was a bathing suit model and dance instructor in her late teens, having studied dance since early childhood. She remained passionate for music and dance throughout her life. Lillian was a gifted seamstress, knitter, and highly skilled in the lost art of fine needlework. She loved to cook for her family, hosting Sunday dinners and all holiday dinners. She was a marvelous storyteller with a memory for details and a keen sense of humor. Lillian retired from the New York City Board of Education in 1975, relocating from the Bronx to the summer home on Bayview Beach in Milford that she loved and shared with her husband and family for 65 years. She greatly enjoyed watching the tides and shorebirds “at the beach”. Lillian was predeceased by her cherished husband, Victor Anthony Lamberti, in 1995, and by her beloved granddaughter, Anna Veronica Lamberti, in 1992. She is survived by her two children, Aimee Lamberti Peterson and Victor Henry Lamberti, daughter-in-law, Judith Varga Lamberti, and her beloved grandson, Victor Anthony Lamberti II, all Milford residents. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Lillian’s favorite charity, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, 555 Long Wharf Drive, New Haven, CT 06511, in her name and in memory of her granddaughter, Anna. A graveside service will take place on Saturday, October 2, 2010 in Kings Highway Cemetery at 10:30am. Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 Broad St., Milford is handling the arrangements
