Florence Bakutis Obituary

Florentia ( Florence ) Antanina Bakutis, 93, a long-time resident of Prospect passed away June 3, 2010 at the Connecticut Baptist Home in Meriden , Connecticut . Florence was born in Waterbury in 1917, daughter of the late Veronica Strileckis Bauktis Raudis and Joseph Bakutis and was a graduate of Crosby High School in Waterbury and attended Post University . She lived in Prospect for most of her life in the family home, enjoying nature, and gardening on the homestead, crocheting and was famous for her carrot cake and baking with her nieces. Florence was a member of St Anthony’s Church, and retired from U.S. Rubber, Shoeware Division (now Uniroyal, Inc.) after many years of service and also enjoyed working part-time after retirement. A member of the Prospect Land Trust, Florence enjoyed congregating with her friends at the Prospect Senior Center prior to moving to Meriden . Beloved sister and aunt, Florence is survived by her devoted sister, Mary Louise Kinstler of Meriden, who bestowed loving care on Florence in her final years, her niece and god-daughter, Cheryl S. Crespi, Esq. of Meriden and her husband Dr. Tony Crespi, niece Charlene A. Longo of Terryville and her husband Peter Longo, and her children Brittney and Peter, niece Monica V. Carrafa of Southington and her husband Dante Carrafa and daughter Kimberly, nephew, William J. Raudis, Jr. of Southington and his wife Dawn Raudis and his children Amy, Cinda and Timothy, Anthony G. Raudis of Prospect and his wife Sandra Raudis and his son Tyler, and Anna Qquendo of Williston, Florida and her husband Ralph Oquendo and her children Kenneth, Dinetta and Marc also of Florida, and several great-great nieces and nephews. Florence was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters, Joseph Bakutis, John J. Raudis, William J. Raudis Sr., Rose Stasilunas and Isabelle Hermance. The family would like to thank the staff at Connecticut Baptist Home for the exceptional care they gave Florence , especially Carol who was always caring and provided extraordinary compassion in her daily care. Friends are invited to call on Saturday, June 5, 2010 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 26 Waterbury Road , Route 69, Prospect. A funeral mass will be held immediately following at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church, 4 Union City, Prospect. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family for internment in Waterbury at St. Joseph ’s Cemetery, next to her mother and father. Memorial donations may be made to the Prospect Senior Center , Prospect, Connecticut
