Joaquim Savaiva, 85, passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2019, surrounded by his family, at his side. He was the beloved husband of 56 years to the late Maria Emilia (Ferreira) Saraiva. Joaquim was born on July 1, 1934 in Darei, Portugal, the son of the late Julio and Gloria (DeJesus) Saraiva. He was an avid gardener and loved to share his crops with all his family and friends. He retired from Vulcan Radiator after 20 years of service and enjoyed his favorite soccer team was Benfica. Joaquim is the father of a son, Anthony Montana; three daughters, Maria da Conceicao Saraiva, Maria Augusta Saraiva and Gloria Maria Saraiva. He also leaves a sister, Irene Marques of Brazil; seven grandchildren, Idalia Cameron, Rocky Saraiva, Norberto Ruiz, Emily Saraiva, Melissa and Danielle Gagne, Christina Saraiva and 18 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers, Francisco, Antonio, Adelino, Eduardo Saraiva and a sister, Ana Santos. Funeral procession will be Monday, August 26 at 10:30 am from the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave, West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Calling hours will be Monday, from 9:00 to 10:30 am at the funeral home. The Seven Day Mass will be Thursday. August 29, 7:00 pm at the church.
