George Junior Green was born on
July 29, 1939 and raised in McRae,
Georgia by his father, Rev. Sonnie
Green, and mother, Mary Green-
Clark. He was the fifth child of eleven
siblings.
George graduated from Dillard High
School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Following his graduation, he went
on to begin a career as a business owner. He owned
and operated a pool hall and a soul food restaurant.
He was also a security guard and worked at the Florida
State Prison during his career. Later, he became an
independent contractor at Bekins Van Lines for forty-
two years, from which he retired in 1988.
George met his wife-to-be, Jacqueline, at the the Elks
Club where he was employed as a security guard in Fort
Lauderdale, Florida in 1983. When they laid eyes on
each other, it was love at first sight. He offered her to
take his security guard seat, and after his shift, he asked
her out on a date. Then the rest was history. George and
Jacqueline married in December of 1984. Later, they had
two children together, but were parents to a household
of three children: Joseph Wright, who later became
Joseph Green, a son whom he legally adopted as his own,
Monique Green, and George Green, Jr.
George was a very religious man of the Baptist Faith.
Early in his faith he was a Deacon at his father’s church,
and later became an ordained minister at Mount Sinai
Missionary Baptist Church. Then he progressed to
becoming an ordained Pastor at Peace and Goodwill
Primitive Baptist Church in Brewton, Alabama. Later he
and his family attended Mount Bethel Missionary Baptist
Church, where he ministered under the leadership of
Rev. Larry McGruder in Bagdad, FL.
George’s hobbies were refurbishing antique furniture,
reconstructing buildings in Northwest Florida, carpentry,
motivational speaking, fishing, and sometimes playing
dominoes in his spare time, a game where he was unbeatable.
He would say, “I put the ‘O’ in dominoes.” He was a very
motivated and positive person in all that he strived to do
throughout his life. He had a great love for being in the
presence of people, motivating, and encouraging others to
move forward in their endeavors.
He was a loving, sweet, caring, compassionate husband and
father to his family. He always did his best to guide and teach
his children to strive to be the best in whatever they did.
Raising his sons to respect and treat women as they ought to
be treated, and never to walk away from their responsibilities.
George was a man that was willing to give his all. He was a
family man and faithful to his promises. He often told his
wife, “I might not be able to give you all that you want, but I
will do my best to give you all that you need.” He tried to live
up to that standard until the day he went to be with the Lord.
