Louis Diaz Obituary

Louis A. Diaz, age 77, died peacefully at Covenant Care Hospice in Pensacola on December 14, 2016. Born January 27, 1939, in New York City, he lived in Brooklyn and Queens, and worked for the New York City Public Housing Authority until retiring in 1996. While working in New York City, Louis served as President of the Hispanic Society of New York City Public Housing, and as President of the Grand Council of New York City Hispanic Societies in Public Service that oversaw the Fire Dept., Police Dept., Hospitals, Public Housing, Education and Transportation, using his voice and actions to advocate for others, and to help influence change for the betterment of his community. In retirement, Louis was a member of St. Sylvester Roman Catholic Church, the ROMEOS, the Navarre Chamber of Commerce, and the Navarre Senior Center. Survivors include Nora, his wife of 56 years, his sons, Gabriel and his wife Donna, Anthony and his wife Olga, his daughters, Angela and her husband Henry, Kimberly and her husband Joe, and grandchildren, Alex, Anthony, Gabriel, Lily, Brittney, Woody, and Lyle. He is also survived by his brothers, Ernest and Daniel, his sister Elizabeth, nieces and nephews, and his family abroad in England. Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Gloria, and his sister Esther. Funeral services will be held at St. Sylvester Roman Catholic Church at 11am, Tuesday, December 27th with a reception following. Interment will be at Barrancas Naval Cemetery at 10am, Wednesday, December 28th. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to St. Vincent De Paul through St. Sylvester’s.
