Norman Cooper

Norman B. “Dooley” Cooper, 87 of Pace, Florida, passed away, Tuesday, May 2, 2017. Dooley was a native of Pace and was the last of nine children born to the late Samuel and Mattie Cooper. He served in the United States Army where he fought in the Korean War. Dooley was awarded the Korean Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal, and a Distinguished Unit Citation. Upon his return from the Army, Dooley married his dearest darling, Peggy Cooper, on April 10, 1954. Dooley went to work at Monsanto where he later retired. Dooley was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather. He was loved by anyone who had met him. He had a love for fishing, Hank Williams Sr., and of course Alabama Football. Anyone who knew Dooley knew his love for the Crimson Tide. Dooley is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Mattie Cooper; his daughter, Elaine Cooper Thompson; five sisters; and three brothers. Dooley is survived by his wife of 63 years, Peggy J. Cooper, of Pace, Florida; two sons, Ronnie (Peggy) Cooper of Pace, Florida, and Steve Cooper of Pace, Florida; a daughter, Beverly (Darren) Dowler of Pace, Florida; eight grandchildren, Courtney Dowler of Pace, Florida, Dustin Dowler of Pace, Florida, Shannon (Nicole) Cooper of Pace, Florida, Shane (Magan) Cooper of Pace, Florida, Brandon (Connie) Pruner of Pace, Florida, Chris Smith of Pensacola, Florida, Michael Thompson of Pace, Florida, and Ryan Thompson of Pace, Florida; five great-grandchildren, Kadence Dowler of Pace, Florida, Kayla Thompson of Pensacola, Florida, Samayah Pruner of Pace, Florida, Hunter Smith of North Carolina, and Cody Smith of North Carolina; and many nieces, nephews and family friends. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 7, 2017, at Lewis Funeral Home, Pace Chapel, with Brother Royce Peaden officiating. Visitation will be held 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., prior to the service. The family wishes to thank the staffs of Covenant Hospice and Santa Rosa Medical Center, Dr. Nashed, and Dr. Plunkett for the love and care given to their husband, father, and grandfather, during his time of illness. Also, the family would like to thank Dooley’s close friend, David Adkison, for all the help he has extended to our family.
