GRAY: Ruth Laverne Smith, 87, of Boundary Street, died Sunday, April 21, 2014, at a local hospital. The family will greet friends from 5:00 - 7:00pm, Thursday, at Bridges Funeral Home in Gray. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am, Friday, April 25, 2014, in the chapel of the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville. Pastor Greg Banks will officiate. Mrs. Smith was born April 28, 1926, in Perry and had lived in Gray for the past fifty-two years. She was the daughter of the late Jessie Lunsford Hester and Emiley Joiner Hester. Mrs. Smith was a member of Gray Church of God and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her daughter: Laverne Smith Key. Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband of sixty-eight years: Francis Smith; son and daughter-in-law: M.D. "Wayne" and Joan Smith; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The family may be contacted at the residence at 120 Boundary Street in Gray.
