Dr. Herbert A Leupold quietly exited this life on March 29,2020. He was born in Brooklyn , N.Y. on January 6,1931 to Josefa Thalmayr and August Leupold. Herbert was educated at St.Joseph’s School in Astoria, N.Y., Stuyvesant High School, Queens College and Columbia University where he earned his PHD in Physics. His entire professional career was spent in the US Army research centers at Fort Monmouth and West Point. During his tenure of research he developed many patents and was an expert in magnetism. In addition to his prolific scientific work he was an expert marksman and voracious reader. All who knew Herb were impressed by his vast knowledge, his entertaining personality and his generous spirit of heart. He loved his retreat in Cooperstown, NY and played host to numerous family reunions over the past forty years. He will be sorely missed by his brothers, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews as well as his wide circle of friends and especially his companion of many years Olga. He will be interred in Long Island’s Pinelawn Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will be celebrated at a later date.
