James W. Gibson

James W. "Gipper" Gibson, age 79, of Madison, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at the Waters of Clifty Falls in Madison. Born October 11, 1937 in Madison, he was the son of William, Sr. and Mary Della (Watson) Gibson. He retired in 1999 from the Indiana-Kentucky Electric Corporation after thirty years of work. He was baptized by Reverend S.M. Gaines and was a member of the Broadway Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Eureka Lodge #30, F. & A.M. and the Jefferson Post #9, American Legion. He enjoyed watching sports, was an avid Indiana University basketball fan and would often be seen wearing IU apparel. He also enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Reds and the boat races at the Madison Regatta. James married Dorothy Stubbins in 1960 and from this union came three daughters: Shelia, Juliene, and Lora. He later married Carolyn Luckett, which brought about one daughter, Jama. He will be sadly missed by his five daughters: Shelia Gibson of Hanover, Indiana; Juliene Gibson and Lora (Darin) Sadler, both of Madison; Jama Gibson of Louisville, Kentucky, and Stephanie Gallahar of Columbus, Indiana; his step-daughter: Pam Sutter of Hanover; his grandchildren: LaToya Gibson of Madison, Danny (Paige) Gibson of Lexington, Kentucky; Ebony Inskeep of Hanover, Destinee Sadler of Madison, Isaiah (Kayla) Humes of Madison, and Marques Gallahar of Columbus; his sisters: Mary Lou Gibson Cosby of Wabash, Indiana, Geraldine (James) Lacy and Wilma Banks, both of Indianapolis, Indiana; one brother, Floyd (Jerri) Gibson of Deputy, Indiana; one special cousin, William “Bill” Watson, of Madison; five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers: William, Jr. and Henry Gibson; his sisters: Georgia Ann Gibson and Priscilla Scott; his son, Greg Majors, and his step-son: Jeffery Luckett. The Reverend Harvey Leggett, Jr. will conduct memorial services at 5:00 PM Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at Lytle Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, 117 Holt Drive, Madison Hilltop. Private interment will be held at Springdale Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the Lytle Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM Tuesday, August 15, 2017. The family requests memorial contributions be made to American Lung Association. Contributions may be made at any of the Lytle Funeral Homes & Cremation Service locations.
