Obituary for Herman "Dale" Mason

Herman “Dale” Mason passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at Parkview Care Center in Osborne, Kansas at the age of 90. He was born August 27, 1923 to Herman B. and Clarron A. (Clements) Mason in Hays, Kansas.

Dale attended school in Plainville and graduated from Plainville High School with the Class of 1942. He joined the United States Navy in February of 1943 and served during WWII as a member of the Armed Guard. He was proud to have served his country. He married Norma Jean Venters, the love of his life, on January 25, 1950 in Plainville at the Methodist Church. Their first child, a daughter, Nikki Rae, arrived on their first anniversary. A few years later, their second daughter, Sheri Denise arrived.

Dale spent most of his life in the oilfield, working 12 years on a drilling rig and 30 years in production. He retired in 1988. He enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, and water skiing with his family and especially his grandchildren. Later he enjoyed learning how to operate his computer.

Dale is survived by his wife Jean, of the home; daughters, Nikki Meistrell and husband Bob of Plainville, and Denise David of Plainville; sister, Shirley Finnesy and husband Richard of Plainville; four grandchildren, Jaime Corbett of Kansas City, Robin Meistrell of Gunnison, CO, Tracey Post of Great Bend, and Kyle David of Plainville; seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Dale is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Clarron Mason; three brothers, Roscoe, Norman, and Bill Mason; a sister, Betty Van Schuyver; and a grandson, Tyler Ward.

Dale was a hardworking man who loved his family and friends. He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed, but he will live forever in the hearts of those who knew him best.
