Southbridge...Charles R. Matte, 87, died Wednesday, Dec. 29th, at the home of his daughter. His wife was the late Juliette (St.Laurent) Matte who died May 19, 2010. He leaves a son James and his wife Denise Matte of Chicopee, and a daugher Charlene Matte and her fiancé Tim Pray of Brimfield, 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother John Matte.
He was born in Southbridge, son of the late Archille and Alma (Goudreau) Matte and lived here all his life. He was a member of Notre Dame Church where he once was a member of the choir.Charlie also was a member of the VFW Post 6055, and the American Legion. He retired from Russell Harrington (Dexter Russell) Cutlery Co. and had previously worked for Frank Shield's Construction. He was a WW 2 US Army veteran serving in the European African Middle Eastern Theater.
The funeral will be Monday, Jan. 3rd, from Sansoucy Funeral Home 40 Marcy St. Southbridge with a Mass at 10AM in Notre Dame Church 446 Main St. Southbridge. Burial with Military Honors will follow at New Notre Dame Cemetery N. Woodstock Rd. Southbridge. Calling hours are Sunday, Jan. 2nd, from 5-7PM at the funeral home.
