North Hoosick, NY Michael S. Krizan Sr., 79, a resident of Route 67, North Hoosick, NY died Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Albany Medical Center following a long illness. Born in Bridgeport, CT on May 31, 1939, at the end of the great depression, he was the youngest of 8 children. He was the son of the late John and Julia (Krivi) Krizan. He received his education in the Bridgeport schools. He then proudly enlisted in the U. S. Army as a Medic, giving him the opportunity to serve his country and travel the world for over 10 years. He was a Veteran of both the Cold War and Vietnam. He studied Drafting & Design through Illinois Technical Institute while in the U.S Army. Mike married his best friend, the former Gail Bacon of Bridgeport on May 22, 1965 in Milton, CT. They moved to Shaftsbury, VT in 1974 to give their children a " Little house on the Prairie" upbringing away from the big cities of Connecticut. Mike was a general contracting business owner in the area from 1974 and retiring in 2006 during this time he did maintenance work for several firms in the area including the Shaftsbury School system where he made many friends. He was an active member and past Commander of American Legion Post 13 in Bennington and was also a former member of the Bennington Moose Lodge. A long-time member of the NRA, while living in Connecticut Mike belonged to both the Milton and Shelton-Monroe Conn. Fish and Game clubs. A master cabinet maker he was, Mike loved woodworking and anything that engaged him in building. A hobbyist farmer raising various farm animals. He took great pride in raising, White faced Hereford beef cattle, Ring neck pheasants and his prized Brittany Spaniel hunting dogs. Survivors include his wife, Gail L. Krizan of North Hoosick; four children and their spouses, Michele and Stephen Gorman Sr. of North Hoosick, NY, Michael Jr. and Kimberly Krizan of Burnt Hills, NY, Lorraine and Michael Higgins of Bennington, Greg and Diane Krizan of Eagle Bridge, NY; seven grandchildren, Stephen Jr., Magan (Emery), Meggan, Amanda, Gavin, Aydia and Dylan; five great-grandchildren, Riley, Jaxson, Blake, Easton and Adam who will be born shortly; two sisters Anna Mae (William) Smith of New Hampshire and Evelyn Tkacs of Milford, CT and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Michael was predeceased by five siblings, Mary Ann, John, Betty, Albert and Margie. Committal services for Michael S. Krizan Sr. will be held at the Gerald Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY on Friday, June 21, 2019 at 1:30pm.
