Age 81, Eugene Harry Owen, son of Joseph Henry Owen and Myrtle (Isenhath) Owen, and husband of Constance (Fox) Owen, died peacefully surrounded by his family, at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan. Mr. Owen was a life-long resident of Portland, Michigan and graduated from Portland High School in 1944. As a student, he enjoyed working at the Owen Pharmacy. A veteran of World War II, he served in the United States Navy and later attended Ferris State College. He was employed by General Motors Corporation for 33 years as a chemist, specializing in rubber and plastics. After retiring in 1986, he pursued his interests in traveling, woodworking, journal keeping, and corresponding with friends. Active in American Legion Post 129, he served as treasurer for seven years. He was a member of St. Patrick’s parish. Mr. Owen is survived by his wife of sixty years, Constance (Fox) Owen; his children, Peggy (David) Dishop, Mary E. Owen, Michael (Rita) Owen, Kathleen (Robert) Russell, James J. Owen; his grandchildren, Matthew (Michelle) Fifield, Jeffrey (Renee) Owen, Mark J. Owen, Reneé Irey, Rebecca (Ryan) Storzbach, Michael O. Russell; great-grandchild, Nathan D. Fifield; inlaws, James & Josephine Fox, Donald & Mary Ann Thelen, Daniel & Wilma Feather, Annette Owen; his nieces and nephews; and, his beloved feline friend, Fred. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Dr. Edwin W. Owen. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, September 24, 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church, West Grand River Avenue, Portland, Michigan with Reverend Larry King presiding. Rite of Committal will follow at the Portland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Patrick’s parish. Visiting hours will be Sunday, September 23, 2007 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. (rosary at 7:00 p.m.) at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 East Bridge Street, Portland, Michigan.
