Ernestine Hickman Obituary

On January 12th, 2020 God chose to call home his faithful servant Ernestine “Teny” Hickman after a brief illness at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx. She was born to the late Russell and Piccola Flippin-Seward on July 17, 1929 in White Plains, NY.

Everyone who knew her lovingly called her “Teny”. She grew up in White Plains and graduated from White Plains High School. Teny was a lifelong White Plains resident, which she talked about with everyone. Teny did day’s work in Westchester while raising her family, then she became employed by Klein’s as a Florist for many years, before moving on to Frank’s Nursery in Greenburgh as a florist manager, before retiring in 1994. Teny took pride in her floral design, and helped make the wedding days of many family member even more special.

Teny had a passion for traveling and went many places, her favorite as she would tell everyone was cross country trips with her husband and her sister Hattie. She not only attended church, but was a devoted member that helped design floral arrangements, while she was still healthy, for any events under former Pastor Wiley Robinson.

Teny was pre-deceased by her loving husband of 55 years, Olden Hickman, and her only son Kenneth L. Hickman. She will continue to be honored in death, as she was in life, by her devoted niece Ruby D. Gamble, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She’s also preceded in death by her sisters: Bernice Southhall, Ruby M. Gamble, & Hattie J. Seward; two brothers: Leroy “bunny” Seward, and James “book” Russell Seward; and two sisters-in-law: Bette Seward, and Annie Mae Seward.
