Joan Beatty Mays Landing, New Jersey Obituary

Joan Beatty

the daughter of the late Ruth and Clarence Taylor, was born July 31, 1930 in Harlem Hospital in New York City and departed this life on November 3, 2007. Joan's early childhood was spent in New York where she attended elementary school, later migrating with her parents to Mizpah, NJ and continuing her education in Mays Landing, NJ. Joan also attended Medgar Evers College in New York. Joan was employed from 1950 to 1962 in various clothing factories, but she wanted more. Joan became employed by the U.S. Postal Service in New York City and remained there for 23 years until retirement. After retiring she became a community activist, volunteering her services in Mizpah and surrounding communities. Joan’s husband Charles and son Neddy precede her in death. She leaves to cherish her memories two daughters Jacquelyn Tennant of Hamilton, NJ and Charlene Beatty of Decatur, GA; six grandchildren: Decrecia Beatty, Melvina Beatty, Stanley Beatty, Branden Booker, Shona Edler, Olamide Olugun; three nephews: Charles Riddick, Dennis Bernard, Emmett Taylor; one niece Delores Riddick; 15 great-grandchildren; godchildren Ominasa Agubugui and Wayne Beathea; special friend of over 30 years Robert Foxworth; loving cousins Mattie Wahington and Madlyn Fobbs; and a host of loving friends and relatives. Joan loved to make everyone happy. She was always giving of herself. She enjoyed attending First Baptist of Mizpah, her mother’s church when she was alive, Rev. Cisrow, Pastor. Joan also had a fondness and love for St. John AME Zion Church, Mizpah, Rev. Rozier, Pastor. Joan was a strong, intelligent woman who was loved by many. When she became suddenly ill, she tried to hold on but God quietly took her home on Saturday, November 3. Everyone will miss her but the family would like you to know Joan left behind a short note that said, “If you must shed tears for me when I’m gone, cry only a little because I loved life and did almost everything my heart desired.”
