Florence Hurlbut Obituary

ARGYLE & WARRENSBURG The family of Florence Maria (Loveland) Hurlbut is saddened to announce her passing on March 6, 2013 at the Glens Falls Hospital. She was 88 years old. Born on July 13, 1924 to Myrtle and Fred Loveland, she was the last survivor of her siblings. She had two brothers, Fred and Harold, and three sisters, Clara Roberts, Myrtle Truehart and Vivian Truehart. Florence attended (by having to walk ) to Hebron and Rupert Vermont rural schools. She graduated at the age of 16 from Granville School and graduated at the age of 18 from Castleton Teachers College in VT. At 19 years old she taught first grade through eighth grade in a one room schoolhouse in North Rupert, VT for three years. She went on to teach first grade through fourth grade in a two room schoolhouse in West Rupert, VT for 7 years. Florence married her love, Edward Thomas Hurlbut, May 17, 1946. They became the proud parents of their daughter Kathleen. He sadly passed away in 1997; they were married for 51 years. The family moved to Argyle in 1952 where Florence taught second grade for 22 years and first grade for five years. She retired after teaching 36 years. She made a lasting and positive difference in the lives of her students. Many of her students remained friends until her passing. Florence had many passions. She and Ed enjoyed bowling for many years with the King’s and Queen’s League at Pine Lanes where she was the secretary, and with the Glens Falls Seniors. She enjoyed her many painting classes and bingo where she met many new friends. She also enjoyed the Rupert old home days where she annually would reunite with her Vermont friends. Florence was a judge for their parades. Her Vermont friends would affectionately call her “Peggy”. Florence was also a member of the Argyle Retired Teachers Association and The Argyle Sr. Citizens. She greatly enjoyed basking in the sun at her daughter and son-in-laws home in Florida and in turn met new friends while there. Florence endured many major medical problems with no complaints and with a fighting spirit. She was a pillar of strength until the end. Florence leaves behind her very saddened daughter, Kathleen Quintal and son-in-law Jerry as well as her three grandchildren Joq Quintal(Jenifer), Joel Quintal(Reigan), and Janell Egloff(Gabe). She has 8 great grandchildren; Jaxon, Jadynn, Jennasys, Jordan, Jarek, Julia, Jayna and Jacob. A new great grandson will arrive in April (Jacoby). She was affectionately called “Great” by her great grandchildren and she always thoroughly enjoyed their company. She also leaves behind her brother-in-law, Charlie Roberts and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to “Thank” Dr. Amy Hogan Moultan, Elaine Williams, Dr. Nevatia and staff, those working on 3 West; Rachael, Diane C., Lisa R., Desirea, Garrett, Cody, Ben, Darcey and Dialysis staff and Sister Donna. Also Rose Moultan and Cassie Lampkins and other caring aides and nurses on the Southwest Wing at Westmount Health Facility. An extended “Thank You” to Florence’s neighbors, Louise and David, for years of kindness. Friends and family may call on Florence’s family Sunday March 10, 2013 from 2p.m.-5p.m. at the M.B.
