Mary Jo Ammons Harris Tuckasegee – Mary Jo Ammons Harris, 70, passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. A native of Jackson County, she moved to the Cherryfield Community in 1971 and lived there until 2001 before returning to Jackson County. She was the daughter of the late Don and Otelia Ashe Ammons. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Clifford Ammons, and a brother-in-law, Edgar Ensley. Mrs. Harris was a member of Zion Baptist Church and had been attending Wolf Creek Baptist Church. She loved flower gardening, quilting, and taking care of her family. Surviving are her husband of 51 years , Bruce Harris; sons, Dean Harris of Lake Toxaway, and Tony Harris and wife Susan of Cherryfield; brother, Carnell Ammons and wife Kay of Tuckasegee; sisters, Kathleen Ensley and Helen Bryson and husband Mike all of Sylva; grandchildren, Ashley Harris, Claire Harris, and Luke Harris; numerous nieces and nephews, other family and close friends that she loved dearly. The funeral service will be held at 2 PM Friday, April 26, 2013 in the Moody-Connolly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Riddle officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to SECU Family House, 1970 Baldwin Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103, the Greenville Shriner’s Hospital, Greenville, SC, or to the American Cancer Society.
