Obituary
A caring and doting wife, mother, sister and friend, who was full of fun and life with a great personality, Candice M. "Candi" Freil, of Centerville, passed away at her home with her family surrounding her on Thursday May 21st, 2020 after a long illness. She was 72. Candi was born on November 13, 1947 in Omaha, Nebraska, one of four children born to Betty (Dick) and Alexander Schmidt. Candi earned two masters degrees, one in Healthcare Administration and the other in Business Health. Her degrees, along with her tenacity and passion for healthcare, made her very sought after throughout her career, accepting healthcare administration positions around the country. She retired from Vitas Hospice, Kettering in 2019, after a rewarding 47 year career. Candi loved shopping and "collecting", especially at Kohl's, TJ Maxx, Macy's and Stein Mart, and she had an abundance of outfits and matching shoes to prove it. She also loved scrapbooking, leaving behind many completed projects, now to be enjoyed as keepsakes. Candi and her husband Michael were also very active members at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, as well as the Knights of Columbus. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Gary Schmidt and sister Pam Caughron. Candi is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 34 years, together for 36 years, Michael Freil; son Matthew Freil and his wife Ria (Rye) of Richmond, Virginia; daughter Breeana Freil of Centerville, Ohio; and sister Jane Frost as well as her husband, Robert "Bob" of Waterloo, Iowa. You are invited to celebrate Candi's life by attending a visitation on Friday June 5th, 2020 from 5-8 pm at Conner & Koch Life Celebration Home, 92 W. Franklin St., Bellbrook. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:30 am Saturday June 6th at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 6245 Wilmington Pike, Centerville, with Father Brian Phelps officiating.
