Fred Hoilman Obituary

Fred Hoilman, age 81, Unicoi, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at his residence. He was a native of Bakersville, NC before moving his family to Unicoi County in 1962. Fred was a son of the late Robert and Daisy Whitson Hoilman. He was a member of Unicoi Baptist Church. Fred retired from American Mechanical in 2000. He also enjoyed farming his land. Fred and his wife walked from Georgia to Maine on the Appalachian Trail which, he always considered one of his favorite achievements. He and his wife enjoyed many wonderful hiking trips all over the United States including one to Alaska. Fred loved to build with various types of wood throughout his home. He also built beautiful wood furniture for his home and his family. Fred was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. The family would like to extend a very special and heartfelt thank you for the care he received from the staff of Amedisys Hospice, Silver Angels and special friend, Margaret Gardner. The family greatly appreciates the meals prepared and brought to them from their friends and neighbors during this difficult time. Fred leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of sixty-two years, Dixie Lee Yelton Hoilman; two sons: Michael D. Hoilman, Unicoi and Jeffery T. Hoilman (Diane), Chattanooga; one daughter, Kathie Y. Hoilman, Unicoi; three sisters: Alma Pate (Reece), Spruce Pine, Georgie Bailey, Unicoi and Beulah “Jeri” Durnan, Denver; one grandson, Brandon Lewis, Unicoi; four granddaughters: Sarah Wicker, Erwin, Madison Hoilman, Franklin, Elizabeth and Caitlin Hoilman, both of Chattanooga; three great grandsons: Colt Lewis, Ethan Lewis and Charley Moore; several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until the hour of service on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Garry Edwards and Chaplain Karl Gasser will officiate at the 2:00 P. M. funeral service. Music will be provided by Karl Gasser and Larry Pate. Committal will follow in the Roselawn Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Colt Lewis, Charley Moore, Doug Hyder, Robert Gouge, Robert Corrivau and Jim Raby.
