Delbert Stevens

Delbert C. Stevens, 100, Bellwood, died early Sunday morning August 4, 2019 at UPMC Altoona. He was born May 26, 1919 in Altoona son of the late Catherine Stevens. He was formerly married to Frances Hoffman. Surviving are two sons, Delbert C., Jr. (Noreen) of Shippensburg and Edward H. (Ronda)of Jacksonville, Fla.; two daughters, Catherine A. (Larry) Irvin of Martinsburg and Janet M. (James) Troxell of Murrysville; eleven grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Steve. He served as a gunnery sergeant in the US Marine Corp during World War II where he participated in action against the enemy on Iwo Jima. He was a member of the first Marine Corps Reserve group that was established in Altoona. Delbert retired as a finish carpenter in the construction industry. He was a member of the Bavarian Club, Altoona. Friends will be received from 10 to 11am Friday, August 9, 2019 at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Inc. Bellwood. A funeral service will be held at 11am Friday at the funeral home, Pastor Myron Weiand officiating. Interment, with military honors, will be at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Township.
