Anne Ledva Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Obituary

Anne Ledva

ANNE MARIE LEDVA (nee Barlick) died peacefully at home of natural causes on January 25, 2017 in the Somerton section of Philadelphia, at the age of 87. Devoted wife of Michael Ledva. Loving mother of Kathleen Mercurio and her husband, Harry; Marianne Ledva; Michael Ledva and his wife, Ann; John Ledva and his wife, Amy; Therese Ledva; and Daniel Ledva. Beloved grandmother of Harry Jr., Megan, Matthew, Monica, Jonathan, Mae, Luke, John Jr., and Rory. Dear great-grandmother of Mark, Kevin, and Khloe. She was preceded in death by her siblings Evelyn Tolkacz, John Barlick, and Charles Barlick. Anne was born on January 17, 1930 in Coral, PA to Bartholomew and Mary Barlick (nee Kmec). Seeking opportunity after the coal industry waned, the family moved from Western PA, to Philadelphia, where Anne attended Bartram High School. Anne worked as an AT&T international operator and later retired from St. John Neumann. She married Michael Ledva, on September 16, 1950. Dedicated to her husband and children, she was married 66 years; between a twenty-year span, the couple was blessed with six healthy children which made for a welcoming home life. While a working mother, she was also a caregiver to her mother-In-law, Anna, (Baba) for many years. Anne is remembered for numerous lovely reasons. She was a kind, patient, generous wife/mother who didn’t seek recognition for her roles. “It Counts the Most When No One is Watching” is a remembered quote. Anne was passionate about her faith, family and friends. She certainly appreciated all of the neighbors that left their Christmas lights up and on through to her passing. She was a stalwart member of St. Christopher parish, dedicated to the Legion of Mary, and an actively participating member of St. Agnes Slovak Church. Anne also contributed to numerous Catholic Charities. She served as an officer of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association and enjoyed volunteering at Cranaleith Spiritual Center. Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing Monday, January 30, 2017, from 6:00PM until 8:00PM, and Tuesday, January 31, 2017, from 8:30AM until 9:45AM at Louis A. DiGiacomo Funeral Home, Inc., 1055 Southampton Road, Philadelphia, followed by her funeral mass 10:30am at St. Christopher Church, 13301 Proctor Road, Philadelphia. Her interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Cranaleith Spiritual Center, 13475 Proctor Road, Philadelphia, PA 19116 or Holy Redeemer Hospice, 12265 Townsend Road, Suite 400, Philadelphia, PA 19154.
