Jack Callow

Jack L. Callow, a resident of Doylestown for the past 55 years, died Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at Doylestown Hospital surrounded by his devoted family. He was 86. He was the loving husband of Grace M. (Ross) Callow with whom he shared 63 years. The son of John and Marie Callow, he was raised in Hatboro and was a 1941 alumni of Hatboro High School. Jack was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific Theatre. He retired in 1962 at NAS Willow Grove. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Doylestown and later started his own business, J and J Custom Landscaping. Jack coached baseball for many years at Warrington Little League. He was an avid hunter and in his later years golfed at Limekiln Golf Course until the age of 82. He enjoyed family time at his beach cottage in Ship Bottom, N.J., as well as his cabin in Dutch Mountain, Pa. His family was central in his life and he was a true patriarch. He is survived by his children: John L. (Eileen), William R. (Dot), Virginia Metzler (David), and Patti McGinnis (Tim); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sisters, Dorothy Lynch and Nancy Steinberg. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his service at 11 a.m., Monday, July 26, at Shelly Funeral Home, 1460 Easton Road, Warrington, where the family will receive friends between 10 and 11 a.m. Interment will be held at Whitemarsh Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Jack's name to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Fund Society, P.O. Box 21, Building 3, Naval Air Station JRB, Willow Grove, PA 19090-5010.
