Rachel Lewis

Gaffney -- Rachel "Peggy" Lewis, 71, of 305 Rita Street, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2010, at her home. Born in Matthews, NC, Mrs. Lewis was the wife of the late John Thurman Lewis and the daughter of the late Joseph Franklin and Bessie Eva Trammell Lewis. She was a member of Johnson Memorial Baptist Church and was a homemaker. Surviving Mrs. Lewis are two daughters, Lynette Lewis of Gaffney and Renee Mullinax of the home; two sons, Charles Lewis of Gaffney and Joseph Lewis of the home; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Leonard McAbee of Arkansas; and three sisters, Betty Matthews of Whitmire, SC, Diane Wyatt of Blacksburg, and Myrtle Byars of Gaffney. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by a son, Robert Wayne Lewis, Sr.; a great-grandson, Robert Wayne Lewis, III, and two brothers, Tom and Leroy McAbee. The family will be at the residence. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Rachel "Peggy" Lewis Funeral Fund, c/o Gordon Mortuary, PO Box 428, Blacksburg, SC 29702.
