Smyrna -- Ruby Carroll Howard, 78, of 2281 Orchard Road, passed away Saturday, August 21st, 2010 at her home. Born in Blacksburg, Mrs. Howard was the husband of Nelson Howard of the home and the daughter of the late Morris Vernon Carroll and the late Lucille Odessa Terry Stewart. Mrs. Howard worked as a knitter in textiles and was a member of Faith Baptist Church. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Howard is survived by four sons, Tony Howard of Fort Mill, SC, Charles Howard of West Columbia, Vernon Lee Ruppe and wife Barbara of Smyrna, and Charles Keith Ruppe and wife Lisa of Kings Mountain; two daughters, Janet Loretta White and husband Jeff and Melba Juanita Carroll and husband Keith, both of Grover; eight brothers, Bobby Joe Bates of Augusta, GA, Lawton Bates of Augusta, GA, Sonny Bates of Gaffney, Elmer Carroll of Grover, E.M. Carroll, J.C. Carroll, Ernest Carroll, and Morris Dean Carroll, all of Blacksburg; a sister, Elsie Mae Martin of Blacksburg; 9 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Monday, August 23rd, 2010 from 6:00pm - 7:30pm at Gordon Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 24th, at 2:00pm at Smyrna Baptist Church with Rev. Todd Justice, Rev. Jerry Allison, and Rev. Tim Osment officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
