Robert Gillespie

Service for Robert Adren Gillespie, 78, of Burleson, will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Burial will follow in Baker-Lain Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 P.M., Wednesday, at the funeral home. Mr. Gillespie passed away Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012 in Burleson after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 26, 1934 in Cleburne to Clifton Porter and Dora Irene White Gillespie. He married Marianne Glenn on January 15, 1957 in Weatherford. Mr. Gillespie served in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict and was a retired machinist for the Santa Fe and Missouri Pacific Railroads. Robert was a strong-willed, friendly, and outgoing man who always had a smile on his face. He enjoyed music, treasure hunting, and fishing. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting. He was a devoted father, spending countless hours with his son looking at trains, airplanes and attending car shows. He and his brothers were known as the "Three Musketeers" at the chemotherapy center where Robert received his treatments. He entered into an experimental cancer treatment program in hopes of helping others. His adventurous spirit and giving nature will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Marianne Gillespie; son, Tony Gillespie; brothers, Charles C. Gillespie and wife, Patsy and Douglas Gillespie and wife Peggy; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Sandra Trussell and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
