Vera Margaret Gist Bratcher Service for Vera M. Bratcher, 91, of Cleburne will be conducted at 3:00 P.M., Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Vera will be laid to rest beside her husband of 40 years in the Rio Vista Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. - 3:00 P.M., prior to the service. Vera passed away peacefully on Wed., Dec. 19, 2012 in Keene. She was born Feb. 4, 1921 near Rio Vista to Coleman C. and Lillie Grubbs Gist. She married D.W. Binks Bratcher on July 2, 1941 in Weatherford. After Binks military retirement in 1961 they moved the family to Rio Vista, later buying the Lacewell farm east of Rio Vista, where they raised cattle, peanuts, pecans, watermelons, cantaloupe, peas and peaches. Vera was famous for her cooking and baking, especially her fresh peach cobblers and homemade peach ice cream. She was an exceptional seamstress, making clothes for herself, daughter, son, granddaughter and grandson. Vera was a faithful member of the Rio Vista Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, D.W. Bratcher; her parents; one son and daughter-in-law, Montie Gene and Fannie Mears Bratcher; grandson, Mikel Joe Fuller; brothers, Robert and Calvin Gist; and one sister, Don Katherine Gist. Survivors include her daughter, Jane Matthews; son, Lonnie Joe Bratcher; granddaughter, Toni and husband, Nubbin Ayars; special granddaughter, Claudia Bush; six great grandchildren; one brother, Cary Gist; sister-in-law, Pearl Gist; and a host of nieces and nephews who have fond memories of visits and holiday celebrations with Aunt Vera and Uncle Bink. Memorials in her name may be made to: The Lighthouse Bono Baptist Church Food Ministry 6349 Bono Rd. Godley, TX 76044, to help with the food needs of the less fortunate in our community.
