Donald Morton

Donald Ray “Don” Morton, 76, of Fair Oaks, passed away August 4, 2015 in Groesbeck. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 7, 2015 in the Oaks Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 6-8 p.m., Thursday, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Don was born in Fair Oaks, Texas on February 1, 1939 to Claude C. and Ruby Pearl Gibson Morton, the youngest of 11 children. He was a retired police officer of 35 years. He served 20 years with Houston PD, 10 years as Limestone County Chief Deputy and five years with the Mexia PD. He also served on the Board of Directors Chief Deputy’s Association during this time. Don enjoyed life in many ways. He enjoyed playing softball in Houston and with the Limestone County S. O., arrowhead hunting, following Nascar all over the country, traveling in his motor home and family reunions. Don also loved living in the country and raising cows. There were many other activities he enjoyed but none were more important than spending time with his family, especially grandchildren, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Linda Carol; step-son, Daniel Wayne Stone; six brothers; and three sisters. Don is survived by his sons, Steven Ray Morton and wife, Becky and Gary Don Morton of Dallas; daughter, Georgia Shelby and husband, Don of Emory; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Claudette Williams of San Antonio; and other relatives and friends.
