Pat Newsom Mexia, Texas Obituary

Pat Newsom

Pat Newsom went to be with the Lord on May 15, 2016, surrounded by her loved ones. She had been battling advanced COPD and a heart condition for over a year. A celebration of life for Pat will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 19, 2015 at the Coolidge Cemetery Chapel. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Pat was born in Terrell, Texas on February 8, 1936 to Elmer L. and Lois Dean. She grew up and graduated from high school in Wylie, Texas. In 1957, she married Bill Newsom and moved to Waco where she was a secretary for Crestview ISD and also a loan officer at Educators Credit Union. In the late 1970’s, she and Bill opened the Village Drive-In Grocery in Mexia. They were, almost, famous for their delicious sandwiches and dip ice cream. Pat had an outgoing personality, always friendly and never met a stranger. She had time, or always took time, to visit with her customers, as well as assisting them in every way possible. In later years, she worked for HEB, group homes and as a correctional officer at Coffield and the Boyd Unit. Pat’s love for the Lord, her family and others was evident in the way she lived her life. She loved listening to Adele and was a big fan of the Baylor Bear's girls basketball team. She never missed watching Li’l Big Shots, The Good Wife and Charlie Rose. Pat was well known and loved by many; she will be missed by all who knew her, but will forever live in the hearts of those who loved her. She was preceded by her parents; brother, Jerry Dean, Don Dean and J. R. Dean; and sisters, Jan Hardy and Linda Hill. Pat is survived by her son, David Newsom; daughter, Melody Wells; grandchildren, Sara Ingram and husband, Bo, Leah Wells, Ian Newsom and Avi Newsom; great-grandchilden, Mia and Eric Wells and Courtney and Desiree Ingram: brother, Harold Dean of Coolidge; and aunt, Mary Louise Faust of Mexia.
