John Fletcher Somerville, III, (89) went to join the Lord in eternal life, April 28, 2018, peacefully, with loved ones at his side. Born to John F Somerville II and Marion E. Ballard on September 29, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan. John grew up in Ft. Atkinson, Wisconsin with his parents, sister, Barbara and brother, Tom, all preceded him in death. John was a military veteran, spending 20 years in the Air Force. He was stationed in Germany, followed by Goodfellow AFB, in San Angelo, Texas. There he met and married Lynn Parker, November 20, 1959. They were later stationed in Alaska, Washington, Kansas, and Japan. After he retired from the AF they moved to Midland where he was employed by Texas Instruments. After his second retirement they moved back to the San Angelo area in 1997. There they attended the First Methodist church of Grape Creek. John and Lynn had one daughter, Johnna Lynn Somerville, (deceased). Lynn brought 4 daughters to this union. John opened his arms and home and helped raise three teenagers. Vera Sue Jackson, (deceased), Nancy Imka, Sandra Finklea Kelly, and Mary Lou Nunez. He is survived by 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren. Lynn passed away Sept. 2004, John met and married Elaine Dixon, January 13, 2008. They made their home in Grape Creek, Texas August 2016 they moved to Brookdale senior living and Elaine passed away January 2018. John moved to New Hope assisted living in Boerne, Texas. Spending his last days with Sandra Finklea Kelly, and family. Visitation will be held all day Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 3, 2018 Pioneer Memorial Park in Grape Creek, Texas, with military honors. Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home/Grape Creek.
