Margaret Jones

Margaret Nelson Jones “Miss Doll”, 93, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2016.  She was born March 10, 1923 in Epes, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Maggie Nelson; husband, Verner Jones, Sr.; son, Verner Jones, Jr.; two brothers and two sisters. She moved to Chattanooga at an early age. She was a homemaker, community mother and grandmother and known to some as the “Mayor of Long Street”.  She was strong willed, free spirited and outspoken.  She was a member of Olivet Baptist Church, where she attended faithfully until her health failed. She is survived by her grandchildren, Jeffrey Jones of Antioch, Tennessee; LaWanda (Ricky, Sr.) Saxton of Stone Mountain, Georgia; great-grandsons, Ricky Saxton, Jr., of Duluth, Georgia; Blair and Miles Jones of LaVergne, Tennessee and Marcel Feaster of Athens, Tennessee; two great-great-granddaughters; two sisters, Willie Mae Stinson of Jonesboro, Georgia and Sarah Miller of Epes, Alabama; a devoted daughter-in-law, Sandra P. Jones; several foster children; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The funeral service will be held at 12 Noon Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Olivet Baptist Church with Bishop Kevin Adams, officiating.   Interment – Forest Hills Cemetery. The body will lie in state after noon Friday, the family will receive friends from 6 – 8 PM at the funeral home.
