George Katsan

George A. Katson, age 87 of Blue Avenue, Grafton, WV passed away Thursday, September 7, 2017 at the Rosewood Center in Grafton. He was born August 19, 1930 in Grafton a son of the late Alexander E. and Mary Elizabeth Katsan. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Ann (Matthews) Katsan, who passed away September 27, 2012. He is survived by one daughter, Mimi E. Kissel and husband, John of Goshen, NY; five grandchildren, Nakoa D. Knotts and wife, McKenzie of Belle Chasse, LA, Clinton J. Knotts of Grafton, Shaela M. (Knotts) Duckworth and husband, Jeremy of Grafton, Alexander M. Katsan of Temperance, MI, and James D. Katsan of Fairmont; six great-grandchildren, Avery and Emari Duckworth, Nakoa Knotts, Adrian and Cameron Martin and Dakota Katson; one brother, Steve Katsan of Arlington, VA; his son-in-law, Clifton Knotts; his daughter-in-law, Donna Katsan; three nieces, Mary Catherine Estel, Roberta Poling, and Jennifer Katsan; and one nephew, Stevie Poling. In addition to his parents and his wife he was preceded in death by his son, Michael David Katsan; his daughter, Alexis Marie Knotts; two sisters, Mimi Karanponis and Catherine Poling; and one brother, Perry Katson. George graduated from Grafton High School with the Class of 1948. He was also a veteran of the US Air Force. He recently retired from the Grafton WalMart as a greeter; managed the WalMart store in Weston and also was the manager of the Heck’s store in Grafton. He was a member of the Taylor County Shrine Club and a lifelong member of the Grafton Lodge #15 AF&AM. He and Mary Ann enjoyed gardening and loved his family and enjoyed people. He was also an avid democrat. He was also a member of the St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church in Clarksburg. The family will receive friends at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton on Sunday, September 10th from 4:00 -8:00 p.m. and from 10:00 a.m. till the funeral hour. A prayer vigil will be held Sunday at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, September 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Father George Callos as celebrant. Interment will follow at the WV National Cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Taylor County Honor Guard and the Wright-Patterson AFB Honor Guard.
